At ALS we have the capacity and expertise to handle complete open pit mining contracts in hard- as well as soft rock environments. We are proud about our ability to rehabilitate open pit mines to a state where grazing for animals can be cultivated. If we are involved in an open pit mining project from the planning stage, box cuts are planned in such a way that rehabilitation takes place while we mine. This not only save our clients money, but also saves the environment. The planes are based at Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria and charters are managed by two accredited Charter companies with experienced pilots and an excellent safety record. The Cessna Caravan is a versatile aeroplane that can be used for either work or leisure charters to the smaller destinations. ALS is well known for the annual cattle production auction at Ingogo. Bovelders Our Bovelder cattle herd is farmed under guidance of Dr. At Viljoen. With his help, our Bovelder cattle farmers devoted the past 8 years to improve the herd. Since then the stud has been managed under the strict supervision of Dr Trish Oglesby a veterinarian specialising in cattle. We make use of in vitro produced embryos, artificial insemination as well as top quality Beefmaster bulls to improve the genetic material of the stud. ALS has many years of experience in the construction of earth dams of which the first was a series of trout dams in the district of Machadodorp in Since then, ALS completed various projects of which the Koppies dam is only one. Specialised equipment is used and the professional services of civil engineers and surveyors employed by the group ensures earth dams of a high standard. Various game species are farmed at the Lekwena Private Game reserve in the Potchefstroom area as well as the Nguni Lodge close to Upington in the Northern Cape. At the ALS Group we standardise on equipment as far as possible so that we are sure to have back-up from our machine suppliers which translates to good machine availability to clients. A strict checking regime is in place whereby a checklist is completed for each machine before each shift. Technology such as Wearcheck, C-Track and E-fuel is used to further boost availability of our machines and to measure productivity. Operator training and skills development form an integral part of equipment hire at ALS.
